  • Reston Town Center

Inspired by the work of Trey Ratcliff (stuckincustoms.com or treyratcliff.com) I have begun my adventures into HDR Photography. This is my very first HDR taken at the Reston Town Center in Virginia.

  • Home Sweet Home...

... but not my home. Another installment in my HDR learning process. * I recently just updated this image with the new release of photomatix 2.5 and I think it did a better job of processing the image the second time around. Orignally this was a 5 exposure HDR but I was getting this funky lighting in the grass that I could not get rid of no matter what I did so I dropped the darkest exposure and ran with this 4 exposure HDR. I think the result came out very nicely, I got a little better detail with the sky and grass. I made a few tweaks in lightroom to the colors, brought it into photoshop cleaned up the sky (you will notice some areas where the clouds moved in each shot) and further processed the image for this end result. I think I have a stronger and more dynamic picture from it.

  • Dranesville Tavern

Dranesville Tavern was built in 1823. In 1865, the Alexandria Gazette described Dranesville Tavern as "one of the finest roadside inns in the State of Virginia." That tradition of excellence and hospitality continues today at this beautifully restored National Historic Landmark. Explore: Aug 13, 2007 #165 I frequent Smashing Magazine on a daily basis for inspiration and today I saw they had a post for "35 Fantastic HDR Pictures", so I clicked the link scrolled down and saw my picture, one of my first HDR's is second on the list. Smashing Magazine, I heart you. View On Black

This was one of 5 shots used for an HDR I did. The single shot had enough information to work with and was able to come out with this result, which was similar if not maybe better then the HDR (but the HDR was my first so there is a little learning curve). Cycle through my Reston photostream for the HDR if you would like to see the 2 different images.

  • Arlington National Cemetery

For the almost four million people who visit annually, Arlington National Cemetery represents many different things. For some, it is a chance to walk among headstones that chronicle American history; for many, it is an opportunity to remember and honor the nation's war heroes; and for others, it is a place to say a last farwell during funeral services for a family member or friend.

September 18, 1943 - October 29, 2005 Took this picture a long time ago, it feels so weird having it. I think about my dad each day, replay many things in my head, haunted and sadden, and yet I dont feel like he is gone,... I just feel like I have not seen in him in a while. I miss my father.
