Dranesville Tavern was built in 1823. In 1865, the Alexandria Gazette described Dranesville Tavern as "one of the finest roadside inns in the State of Virginia." That tradition of excellence and hospitality continues today at this beautifully restored National Historic Landmark. The home of Captain and Mrs. Newton H. White was built in 1939 by architect W.E. Bottomly. Captain White had a distinguished career in the U.S. Navy serving on U.S.S. Yorktown and the U.S.S. Lexington. He was the first commanding officer on the U.S.S. Enterprise prior to World War II. Captain White set out to develop a model dairy farm out of an average Prince George's County farm. The farm became quite profitable, much to White's chagrin at tax time. The mansion is a two-story brick Neo-Georgian-style home. With Captain White's nautical affiliation, the 586 acre tract became known as Enterprise Estate. Today the mansion is surrounded by Enterprise Golf Course and consists of six large rooms, a contemporary glass-enclosed atrium, two upstairs dressing rooms, and an outdoor brick patio with a central waterfall fountain. www.pgparks.com/places/eleganthistoric/newton_intro.html
While the present Oxon Hill Manor was built circa 1928, the land and former mansion was home to the nephews of George Washington, and the nephew of John Hanson, the first president elected by the Continental Congress under the Articles of Confederation. Hanson visited Oxon Hill Manor often and died there in 1783. He is believed to be buried on the estate's cemetery. The original mansion was destroyed by fire in 1895. The present 49-room Georgian style manor house designed by Count Jules Henri de Sibour and built for Sumner Welles, Undersecretary of State in the Franklin D. Roosevelt administration. Roosevelt was a frequent visitor to the estate. In 1952 Fred Maloof acquired the estate and established a museum for fine art and John Hanson memorabilia. www.pgparks.com/places/eleganthistoric/oxonhill_intro.html

Looking at the window. HDR from a single RAW image.
This was one of 5 shots used for an HDR I did. The single shot had enough information to work with and was able to come out with this result, which was similar if not maybe better then the HDR (but the HDR was my first so there is a little learning curve). Cycle through my Reston photostream for the HDR if you would like to see the 2 different images.
